AUSTIN, TX – One person died Tuesday night after a vehicle struck them along the interstate just east of the North Loop area, reports CBS Austin.
The accident happened around 9:45 p.m. in the area of 5700 N I-35 southbound. This is south of Highway 290 near Capital Plaza.
It’s not yet known if the victim was standing along the shoulder or walking across lanes of traffic on the interstate when the crash occurred.
Police say the pedestrian died at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity to the public.
It’s unclear if the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash remained at the scene to render aid and speak with officers.
Officials urged motorists to avoid this stretch of I-35 southbound while crews worked to clear the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
