AUSTIN, TX – APD has disclosed the names of three of the people that died last Thursday in an 18-vehicle crash caused by an impaired driver.
According to KXAN, the accident happened at night between Parmer and Howard Lanes on I-35. This is in the Parmer Center area.
APD has named Ma Concepcion Joaquin De Joaquin, 78, as a victim from the green Chevy pickup truck. From the silver Volkswagen, Sergieo Daniel Lopez, 32, and Natalia Helana Perez, 25, have been named. An infant and a child from the Volkswagen also died; authorities are withholding their names.
Two additional people died, and nearly a dozen more persons sustained injuries in the collision.
Police arrested the 37-year-old truck driver that caused the accident. They say that Solomun Weldekeal-Araya was under the influence of drugs when he struck the rear of the Chevy pickup truck, initiating a chain-reaction of crashes.
Weldekeal-Araya faces charges that include five counts of intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and two counts of intoxication assault with a vehicle involving serious bodily injury.
A full investigation is underway.
