AUSTIN, TX – A wrong-way crash seriously injured three people in northwest Austin on Monday evening, reports Fox 7 Austin.

The accident happened shortly before 6 p.m. on Mount Bonnell Road between Covert Park and Waters Edge Drive. This is just east of the Colorado River and northwest of the Balcones Park neighborhood.

Austin Police are investigating what might have caused the two vehicles to collide head on.

After working to extricate one person from their vehicle, medics transported one patient to the hospital in critical condition. Two other patients went to the hospital with serious injuries. 

One patient declined hospitalization for minor injuries.

Officials closed Mount Bonnell Road for more than two hours while emergency teams attended to the victims and crews worked to clear the scene.

An investigation is underway.
