AUSTIN, TX – Police say a pedestrian died after being struck by at least one vehicle in northwest Austin Tuesday morning.
According to the Austin American-Statesman, Austin police responded to a call about the incident in the 14100 block of Texas 45 just west of Parmer Lane.
Investigators said a person experiencing homelessness who had been pushing a shopping cart across the highway shortly before 2:30 a.m. was struck by a Lexus sedan, and may have also been hit by other vehicles. The victim, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the Lexus driver abandoned the vehicle and left the scene following the crash. All eastbound lanes of Texas 45 were shut down in the area for the investigation.
