AUSTIN, TX – A man has been sentenced in connection with a crash in east Austin last year that killed a passenger in his vehicle, reports KXAN.
27-year-old Juan Manuel Aboyles-Garcia pleaded guilty to criminal negligent homicide in the August 15, 2020 accident on FM 969 near Decker Lane. He was sentenced to three years of community supervision.
According to investigators, Aboyles-Garcia was driving his truck through a green light at the intersection when he lost control, crashing though underbrush and trees. The vehicle then slammed into a fence. The passenger, 26-year-old Alfonso Sanchez Angeles, was pronounced dead at the scene.
An arrest affidavit said officers smelled alcohol on Aboyles-Garcia and he also admitted that he had been drinking beer. A breath test revealed that his blood alcohol level was well above the legal limit, KXAN reported.
