AUSTIN, TX – Police say a person trying to cross Interstate 35 in Austin was struck and killed by an 18-wheeler on Wednesday morning.
According to KXAN, the accident happened in the northbound lanes of I-35 near Airport Boulevard shortly before 3:30 a.m. The victim, whose identity was not released, was found in the 4900 block of the interstate and pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck involved remained at the scene after the accident, police said.
I-35 north between Airport Boulevard and 51st Street was shut down for about three hours while the crash was cleared and investigated. Traffic was diverted onto an access road and drivers were advised to expect delays.
