AUSTIN, TX – Police say a wrong-way driver was involved in a fatal crash in South Austin Saturday morning, KVUE reports.
Austin-Travis County EMS responded to the scene on West Ben White Boulevard in the vicinity of South First Street. Police said a Mercedes-Benz crashed into a Nissan Sentra sometime before 2:30 a.m., but did not disclose which of the vehicles was going in the wrong direction.
One person was declared dead at the scene. The victim was identified as the driver of the Nissan, 26-year-old Jennifer Rosas-Sanchez. Medics said one person sustained critical, life-threatening injuries while another was seriously injured. Both were transported to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center.
It was the 54th fatal traffic crash in Austin this year, an increase from 40 at this time in 2020.
