AUSTIN, TX – Police have not publicly identified the victim of a multi-car collision that happened on a highway in southwest Austin early this morning.
KVUE reports that the incident happened around 5:15 a.m. on the westbound side of State Highway 71 between Covered Bridge Drive and Silvermine Drive.
The full circumstances of the accident are still unclear. Austin-Travis County EMS notified the public at 5:20 a.m. that one person had to be extricated from their vehicle. Medics attempted life-saving measures, but this person died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.
First responders evaluated another person a t the scene and said that person would likely not be taken to the hospital.
Officials closed both sides of SH-71 in the vicinity of the accident, and the Texas Department of Transportation indicated the closures could last for quite some time.
