AUSTIN, TX – A pedestrian died early Wednesday morning after a vehicle struck them near the interstate in downtown Austin, reports CBS Austin.

Police say the incident happened around 5:23 a.m. on the southbound side of I-35 at East Cesar Chavez Street.

Austin-Travis County EMS pronounced the adult victim deceased at the scene of the accident. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the pedestrian.

Officials closed all southbound lanes of I-35 at Cesar Chavez and diverted traffic to the frontage road. All lanes reopened by around 8:30 a.m.

The incident remains under investigation.
