AUSTIN, TX – A deputy with the Travis County Sheriff’s Office went to the hospital Tuesday morning after an 18-wheeler struck him along a highway in east Austin, reports KVUE.
The incident happened at 8:46 a.m. in the area of 3900 State Highway 130 Northbound, which is just northeast of Walter E. Long Metropolitan Park.
Police say the deputy had parked along the side of the highway and exited his vehicle to help a truck driver that had wrecked due to ice on the roadway. A second semi-truck lost traction on the ice and struck the deputy, who became pinned beneath the truck.
Medics transported the officer to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
No other injuries have been reported in connection with the crash.
