AUSTIN, TX — Two people died Monday night in a two-vehicle wreck involving a semi-truck on Interstate 35 in Austin’s North Loop area, according to KXAN.
Austin-Travis County EMS crews responded to the scene in the southbound lanes of North I-35 near 51st Street, shortly after 8:30 p.m.
Authorities arrived to find an SUV completely engulfed in flames after having collided with a semi-truck.
Two occupants in the SUV were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the semi was treated by EMS for non-life-threatening injuries. It is unclear whether or not they were taken to a hospital.
All southbound lanes of the interstate were shut down but reopened several hours later at 4:43 a.m.
Austin Police Department’s Vehicular Homicide Unit is working to determine the cause of the accident.
