AUSTIN, TX – A 37-year-old man died last Friday when a vehicle struck him along a busy roadway in southeast Austin, reports KXAN.
The incident happened around 2:26 a.m. near the intersection of East Riverside Drive and South Lakeshore Boulevard. This is just south of Town Lake and east of I-35.
The pedestrian died at the scene of the accident. Authorities identified him as Aaron Alcala Hernandez. It’s unclear if Hernandez was walking in a designated crosswalk when he was hit.
Police say the driver of the vehicle that struck Hernandez was likely intoxicated at the time of the accident.
Authorities arrested 33-year-old Dontay Waffer on charges of DUI and causing an accident resulting in death.
A full investigation is underway.
