AUSTIN, TX – Austin Police are investigating a pedestrian crash that killed one person Tuesday morning in northeast Austin, reports KXAN.
The accident occurred just after 3:30 p.m. on the southbound side of I-35 near Braker Lane. This is in the Walnut Forest area, just southeast of Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park.
Authorities haven’t yet commented on the circumstances of the collision, so it’s unclear if the pedestrian was attempting to cross the interstate at the time of the crash. It’s also unclear if the victim was walking in a designated crosswalk when the vehicle hit them.
While APD hasn’t shared any details about the driver, they also haven’t referred to the crash as a hit-and-run. Additionally, the victim’s identity has yet to be disclosed to the public.
Officials closed the southbound side of the interstate between Braker and Rundberg for several hours while crews worked at the scene. All lanes re-opened by around 8:30 a.m.
A full investigation is underway.
