AUSTIN, TX – One person died Friday night after a major accident along the highway in southeast Austin, reports KXAN.
The crash happened just before 9:30 p.m. on the eastbound side of Ben White Boulevard, or TX-71, near Woodward Street. This is just east of I-35 and southwest of Mabel Davis District Park.
Police haven’t yet shared any details regarding the circumstances of the wreck except to say that one person died at the scene. It’s unclear what caused the collision or how many vehicles were involved.
Authorities are waiting to speak with next-of-kin before disclosing the identity of the deceased.
Officials closed the highway in both directions in the vicinity of the accident while emergency teams worked at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
