SAN MARCOS, TX – A teenage driver being chased by law enforcement authorities crashed into a car in San Marcos on Tuesday afternoon, according to KXAN.
The Hays County Sheriff’s Office said deputies tried to pull over the driver, 17-year-old Christopher Rodriguez-Cerda, after he was seen speeding on Interstate 35 south while driving a Mercedes.
The sheriff’s office said Rodriguez-Cerda drove away after being initially pulled over, and at one point steered the car toward a deputy. After being stopped again, he allegedly refused to exit the car and put it into reverse.
Rodriguez-Cerda drove off onto Long Street, and eventually struck another car in the area of Thorpe Street and Robbie Lane, officials said. The driver of that car and Rodriguez-Cerda were hospitalized with minor injuries.
Rodriguez-Cerda now faces criminal charges that include felony evading and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. He was taken to the Hays County Jail after being released from the hospital.
