AUSTIN, TX – An Austin police officer was rushed to the hospital early Wednesday morning after a collision with a tractor-trailer.
According to KVUE, the crash happened at the intersection of FM 969 and Decker Lane at about 2 a.m. Police said the officer was responding to an urgent call in his patrol vehicle when the 18-wheeler made a U-turn in front of him. The patrol car hit the trailer of the 18-wheeler.
The officer was transported to an area hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. The truck driver was reported to have remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators.
A stretch of FM 969 was shut down for hours as the crash scene was being cleared. The roadway reopened shortly after 10 a.m.
