KILLEEN, TX – Police are investigating after a woman was struck and killed by a train in downtown Killeen on Wednesday, reports KCEN TV 6.
The incident happened around 7:24 p.m. in the area of 100 North 8th Street, which is just north of East Veterans Memorial Boulevard.
The preliminary investigation indicates that 58-year-old Christine Gerlinde Rottmann was standing on the train tracks when the eastbound train hit her. The conductor saw the victim prior to the crash and employed the emergency break, but the woman did not move.
Authorities likely blocked roads in the vicinity of the accident while crews attended to the victim and worked to clear the scene.
