AUSTIN, TX – The driver of a vehicle that careened into a group of protesters at the Headquarters of Austin Police Department Saturday was taken into custody following the incident.
According to KVUE, the crash occurred when an unidentified vehicle drove through a crowd holding up traffic by blocking a portion of Eighth Street in downtown Austin. In an attempt to get the protesters to move, the driver began pointing a firearm at members of the demonstration.
Police quickly pulled the man over and arrested him on the scene. Luckily, no one was injured as a result of the incident. However, it did serve to raise tensions associated with the racial injustice protests that have been occurring in Austin throughout the month of June.
