AUSTIN, TX – Authorities said a driver fled the scene after a car crash at a cemetery in east Austin Tuesday morning, according to KXAN.
The accident happened at the Oakwood Cemetery in the area of East 14th Street and St. Bernard Street.
The car slammed into a fence and caused damage to some headstones dating back to 1872, Fox 7 Austin reported.
The driver was reported by a 911 caller to have run away following the incident. By the time police got there, the vehicle had been abandoned. There were no immediate reports of any injuries.
Oakwood Cemetery is Austin’s oldest cemetery.
