KYLE, TX – A drunk driver struck and fatally injured an Austin woman early last Tuesday along the interstate in south Kyle, reports KVUE.
Emergency teams responded to the southbound shoulder of I-35 near Yarrington Road around 2 a.m. This is just northeast of Five Mile Dam Park.
Police say that a southbound vehicle driven by 21-year-old Gabriella Saurette hit 50-year-old Flavia Arzate Gomez. Gomez was standing next to her vehicle and adjusting a tarp when Saurette’s car struck her.
Authorities pronounced Gomez deceased at the scene of the wreck.
Saurette admitted to drinking alcohol in downtown Austin before the crash occurred. Police arrested her on a charge of intoxication manslaughter.
A full investigation is underway.
