AUSTIN, TX – One person died, and another was critically hurt Tuesday after a vehicle struck them at a busy intersection in downtown Austin.
According to KXAN, the incident happened around 1:10 a.m. at the intersection of East 7th Street and Red River Street, which is just west of I-35 and north of Town Lake.
Police have identified the suspect’s vehicle as a dark grey Mazda, which they say left the scene immediately after the crash.
Authorities have not yet released the name of the deceased, nor have they commented on the other victim’s injuries.
Officials closed East 7th Street in the area of the accident for almost four hours while police gathered evidence and crews worked to clean up the scene.
Anyone who may have witnessed the accident can contact the Austin Police Department, as the investigation is ongoing.
