SAN MARCOS, TX – A major accident involving an SUV and a minivan killed one person and injured four others Monday in San Marcos, reports KVUE.
The accident happened around 5:40 a.m. on the northbound side of I-35 near exit 208, which is just west of Blanco Shoals Natural Area on the northeast side of the city.
Police say that a white Toyota minivan struck a black SUV carrying five people. The collision caused the SUV to overturn after hitting a sign on the interstate.
The driver of the SUV sustained fatal injuries when she was thrown from the vehicle. She later died after transport to a local hospital. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity to the public.
All four passengers in the SUV sustained non-critical injuries; it’s unclear if they required hospitalization.
The driver of the minivan drove away from the scene of the accident and ultimately crashed into a dumpster. He then exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Authorities say they have identified a suspect and will pursue an arrest.
The investigation is ongoing.
