AUSTIN, TX – A man was taken into custody Sunday afternoon after returning to the scene of a fiery crash in North Austin which he initially fled.
According to a report by Fox 7 Austin, a gold minivan was pulling out of a private drive to head south on US-183 when it collided with a black passenger vehicle. The vehicle that was hit overturned in mid-air before crashing into a roadside ditch and catching fire.
The driver of the minivan initially fled while bystanders rushed to assist the woman out of the black vehicle. The victim suffered a small laceration to her wrist and burns to her forearm.
While firefighters were working to put out the blaze, the driver of the minivan, Nelson Moran-Mendez, returned to check on the occupants of the vehicle that he hit. He was arrested and charged with failure to stop and render aid.
