ELGIN, TX – The suspect involved in a stolen vehicle crash died at the hospital hours later after resisting arrest and fighting with authorities Tuesday morning.
Police responded to reports of a vehicle colliding with a fence after driving off of the road along Hwy 290 near Elgin around 10:30 a.m., according to CBS Austin.
Officials with both the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office and emergency services arrived at the scene to discover that the male driver had been ejected from the vehicle and was laying near the side of the road. The suspect was putting up a struggle as deputies attempted to detain him when paramedics noticed he was having difficulty breathing.
The man was flown to Austin Heart Hospital, where he died shortly before 1:00 p.m.
Sheriff’s deputies were treated for minor injuries at the scene. No one else was injured as a result of the collision.
