TRAVIS COUNTY, TX — Several members of a family were injured late Saturday afternoon due to a hit-and-run crash in north Austin, according to Everything Lubbock.
The incident was reported on Jollyville Road as the family was heading back home toward Killeen. According to the Austin Police Department, dispatchers received what they classified as a “Crash Urgent” Priority 2 call (on a Priority O-Priority 4 system) at 4:18 p.m. Due to a high police presence at the ongoing SXSW festival downtown, officers were only able to arrive at the crash site at 6:35 p.m.
According to the adult victims, their family vehicle was struck head-on by another car, whose driver, visibly intoxicated, admitted to having just come from a nearby bar. The suspect fled the scene before authorities arrived.
The impact of the crash, which involved children, reportedly caused the victim vehicle to smoke and for its airbags to deploy.
An undisclosed number of victims suffered injuries ranging from “bruises to fractured wrists and pulled muscles.”
As of this writing, the Austin Police Department said no criminal investigation is being conducted.
The family has since hired an attorney to pursue the case.
