AUSTIN, TX – A driver was arrested after a passenger in her car was killed in a crash on Dessau Road in Austin on Monday afternoon, according to KXAN.

Police said 36-year-old Octavia Antoinette Scales was driving a Toyota Corolla when she caused a crash that involved a total of five vehicles along Dessau Road shortly before 2 p.m. Officers reported Scales was speeding and crashed into three vehicles, one of them a Capital Metro bus that was then pushed into an Audi.
A passenger in the Toyota, 46-year-old Latesha D. Washington, died after being rushed to an area hospital.
According to the Austin Police Department, officers observed that Scales showed signs of impairment, and detectives said she admitted smoking marijuana while driving. She was subsequently charged with second degree felony intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle.
