AUSTIN, TX – Emergency teams responded to a fatal accident along the highway frontage road in northwest Austin on Friday, reports KXAN.

The incident occurred around 1 a.m. along Research Boulevard northbound at Duval Road. This is just west of Davis Elementary School and north of Ascension Seton Northwest Hospital.

Police say that for unknown reasons, a driver lost control and crashed into a barrier along Research.

No other vehicles were involved, and one man died at the scene of the crash.

Officials closed the northbound side of Research for several hours while crews gathered evidence and worked to clear the scene.

It’s unclear if rainy weather may have been a factor in the crash. A full investigation is underway.
