AUSTIN, TX — A Tesla caught fire early Thursday morning after crashing into a pump at a gas station in west Austin’s Tarrytown neighborhood, according to KXAN.
Austin Fire Department said the incident occurred in the 2600 block of Exposition Boulevard near Westover Road at approximately 1:20 a.m.
Fire crews successfully contained the fire but took precautionary measures to ensure the electric car’s lithium batteries had cooled enough, as the batteries found in similar cars have a tendency to reignite.
A spokesperson with AFD warned of delays in the area as a result of the incident.
