BASTROP COUNTY, TX – A woman was hit and killed by a vehicle while trying to cross State Highway 71 in Bastrop late Saturday morning, reports FOX 7 Austin.
The fatal pedestrian crash occurred in the 700 block of the highway on September 21. Bastrop Police Department officers and Bastrop Fire crews were called to the scene just before 11:30 a.m.
Preliminary details show the woman was on foot when she attempted to cross the eastbound highway. At one point, she was hit by an unspecified vehicle.
Despite life-saving measures from responding emergency crews, the woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.
No injuries to the driver were reported, and the vehicle did not appear to sustain significant damage.
A section of SH-71 at TX-304 was closed for about two hours following the collision.
An investigation was in progress.
