AUSTIN, TX – A DWI driver hit one vehicle and killed one pedestrian last Thursday night. According to the Austin Police Department, Gary Brauneis, a 27-year-old man, was driving his grey 2010 Mazda northbound on the Highway 183 service road when he crashed into the back of a white 2014 GMC truck. The impact of the collision pushed the truck into the intersection at Pond Springs Road.
Brauneis drove off from the collision and drove up a sidewalk where he struck Ginger Mattox, a 30-year-old pedestrian. The Mazda continued on and eventually crashed into a building.
The driver of the GMC truck sustained minor injuries in the accident, and medics transported him to a nearby hospital for treatment. Mattox was taken to St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center where she later died from her injuries.
Brauneis was arrested and charged with DWI and intoxication manslaughter.
