According to the Texas Department of Transportation, you should always call the police in a car accident where:
- There are any injuries.
- There was a death.
- One or more vehicles are so damaged that they can’t be safely moved.
- You suspect that the other driver is under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or both.
- The other driver does not have auto insurance.
- The other driver leaves the scene of the accident.
Unless the accident is very minor, it’s better to call the police to the scene so they can document the accident.
