A catastrophic injury can come in many forms, but essentially is a term applied to any sort of injury that is incapacitation or life changing.

This can be a head injury, a neck or back injury that requires surgery, or any other type of injury that simply alters the day to day life of the victim going forward. If the injury has lifelong repercussions, it can likely be deemed catastrophic in nature.
